Replacing Walkways Without Disrupting Passenger Flow

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (HJAIA), the world's busiest airport for passenger traffic, recently began an ambitious renovation project. Spearheaded by a joint venture involving New South Construction, McCarthy Building Companies, and Synergy Development Partners (collectively known as NSMS), this project showcased a blend of local expertise and national best practices in aviation construction.

Navigating Challenges with Precision
The main challenge faced by the NSMS team was no small feat: replacing hundreds of feet of moving walkways within the narrow and constantly crowded passages of an airport that operates 24/7. The job called for managing a complex construction process in a way that minimally disrupted the constant flow of air travelers.

RealWall: The Game-Changer
To conceal and secure the heavy demolition and reconstruction areas, the team decided against traditional containment methods such as drywall or plastic sheeting. Instead, they opted for STARC’s RealWall™ system, which enabled the creation of long, straight runs of wall that formed a safe passage for passengers, effectively creating a tunnel that allowed for uninterrupted movement beside the sections closed for renovation. RealWall’s ease of installation, extreme durability, and professional appearance made it an ideal choice for this busy public space.

Going with RealWall not only ensured the safety and security of the airport's visitors but also facilitated the seamless continuation of operations within one of the most active airport hubs in the world. The project stands as a testament to the NSMS joint venture's commitment to excellence and the versatile, impactful solutions offered by STARC.
